Death From Above

Death From Above appearing at this event

The high-energy, high-volume duo Death From Above made an immediate splash upon their debut in 2004 with You’re a Woman, I’m a Machine. Bassist/synth player Jesse Keeler and drummer/vocalist Sebastien Grainger both hailed from Toronto, where they met and formed DFA in 2001. The summer of 2014 saw them release their first single in nine years, "Trainwreck 1979," which was quickly followed in the autumn by their second album, The Physical World. Without a guitarist -- or any other bandmember for that matter — DFA 1979 were free to push their rhythmic sound as far as it would go, and they eventually arrived at a severely overdriven rush of punk, hard rock, and dance music influences held together with high volume. After issuing a few initial singles, they released "You’re a Woman, I’m a Machine" in 2004 and never looked back, touring alongside such high-profile bands as Nine Inch Nails and Queens Of The Stone Age and generally making a sweaty, shirtless racket wherever they went.

Ezra Furman

Ezra Furman appearing at this event

"A young man in a dress and vigorously applied make-up, singing about his Jewish faith, his depression, his anger and his joy, to a backing of 50s rock’n’roll, interspersed with bits of garage rock and Velvet Undergroundish R&B. Imagine Jonathan Richman’s even nerdier younger brother, from Chicago rather than Boston, and you’re partway there" - The Guardian From Chicago, Illinois, Ezra Furman showcases his Springsteen/Young/Dylan-esque sounds with a wry sense of humour and wild story telling. Crossing between love, gender, sexuality and religion, Ezra has soundtracked the current fear and loathing across America like no other, while pushing ahead with his own agenda.

Ferocious Dog

Ferocious Dog appearing at this event

Ferocious Dog offer a full-on six-piece sound that encompasses folk infused with rock, reggae and Celtic vibrations. The combination of instruments creates a palette of sound that offers infinite variations: going in hard to get the audience up and moving, or slipping into melodic passages and dub-like fusions. In China, 2015 was the year of the Sheep – but in Nottinghamshire and countless venues and festivals in the UK it was the year of the Dog. The year that Ferocious Dog snarled their way from the periphery of the festival and gig scene and put themselves firmly in the limelight of the alternative scene. The climax of their new album tour saw them sell out Rock City in Nottingham in advance – a historic moment, the first time in the 35 year history of this auspicious venue an unsigned band has achieved this feat.

Classic, contemporary, and a total breath of fresh air in the current musical landscape, Jade Bird is that rare, next-generation artist who appears as clued up on the past as she is determined to learn from its lessons: in control, sometimes in your face, and in possession of gifts beyond her years.

Lorenzo Senni

Lorenzo Senni appearing at this event

'Tireless investigator of dance music’s mechanisms and working parts, and head of respected experimental label Presto!?, the Italian musician also produced Quantum Jelly on label Editions Mego. An amazing deconstruction of sound and rave culture in the 90’s (chiefly trance and hard techno), carefully analyzing it’s constituent parts for reuse in a very different context, with repetition and isolation as key concepts.'

A tough pop / soft punk band from Melbourne, Australia, signed to the Sub Pop label. Sam Fender

Sam Fender appearing at this event

Very little has stood in the way of young North Shields artist Sam Fender and his rapid ascent since 2018. Having toured the UK and Europe relentlessly, building himself a loyal, passionate army of fans, Sam writes honestly and candidly about subjects of social and generational significance, broadly drawn from his experiences growing up in the North East of England. Sam wraps his pertinent words in rousing, propulsive, arena-sized guitar anthems and delivers them directly with a cavernous, powerful vocal.

Sons Of Kemet

Sons Of Kemet appearing at this event

Sons of Kemet is the brainchild of young reeds player and Radio 3 New Generation Artist Shabaka Hutchings, whose ambition for this ensemble was to assemble the most unlikely of line-ups and allow them free rein for their distinct musical personalities to shine through. The resultant music is loud, earthy, vital, and refreshingly rough-edged at times but surprisingly danceable; the two drummers spur off each others’ energies and the tuba occupies a variety of roles from breathless walking bass to subtle, overdubbed layers of sound. Shabaka’s plaintive tone and uncluttered compositions frame the sound. Shabaka Hutchings on clarinet and tenor saxophone. Oren Marshall on tuba and electronics. Seb Rochford and Tom Skinner on drums.
