Friendly Fires

Friendly Fires appearing at this event

Formed by a trio of lifelong friends, Friendly Fires began combining the anthemic choruses and swooning melodies of indie rock and shoegaze with the insistent pulse of dance music in the mid-2000s. This mix of styles sounded prescient on 2008's Friendly Fires and 2011's Pala, while the band's later singles and albums reflected how enmeshed the worlds of indie and dance were as the 2010s came to a close. After their second album the band went on a hiatus due to some personal tragedies and illnesses within the band, but returned in 2018 with a new track co-prodcued by Disclosure and their long-awaited third album being released in 2019.

George Ezra

George Ezra appearing at this event

Young singer/songwriter folk-blues balladeer George Ezra first came to attention when BBC Introducing in his adopted home of Bristol picked up on a handful of tracks posted online. That led to a live session at the legendary Maida Vale studios and an oversubscribed performance on their stage at the 2013 Glastonbury Festival. The singer/songwriter possesses a deep, resonant, and emotionally weathered voice that belies his considerable youth. Influenced by similarly precocious troubadours like Dylan and Hank Williams, Ezra was just 19 when he issued his debut single 'Budapest', a warm, amiable, and soulful slice of classy folk-pop that invoked names like Willy Mason, Ben Howard, Ray Lamontagne and Tom Odell.

Courteeners

Courteeners appearing at this event

Manchester's Courteeners both look and sound as though they've come straight out of another time and place, and yet, somehow, are bang up to date. Think Babyshambles meets The Smiths and you'll be somewhere close to their gritty, electrifying sound. The band, who have been friends since childhood, have grown into one of the UK’s premier guitar bands delivering such era-defining anthems as ‘Not Nineteen Forever’, ‘Are You in Love with a Notion’, ‘How Good It Was’, ‘The 17th’ and last year’s ‘Hanging Off Your Cloud’.

Gaz Coombes

Gaz Coombes appearing at this event

The former Supergrass frontman, now a solo artist. No longer getting caught by the fuzz, but thankfully Gaz's sound has not matured TOO much. The catchy punky indie-rock songs are still there, but perhaps with a little more depth. Things are still alright!

Rat Boy

Rat Boy appearing at this event

Rat Boy (real name Jordan Cardy) is a man painting a picture of being young in suburban Britain, following in an illustrious line of great urban storytellers from Squeeze to Blur and The Streets. The music Rat Boy uses to spread his messages is a neat, powerful brand of indie hip-hop rock, all samples, sound effects, slashes of guitar and machine beats. After making waves with his Top 15 debut album ‘Ssum’, he took a leftfield turn by teaming up with his hero Tim Armstrong (Rancid, Transplants) to create the punk ‘n’ beats mayhem of the ‘Internationally Unknown’ mixtape. One to watch, probably over your shoulder, in the dead of night, after the pubs have shut, the fights have started and the chip shops are doing a roaring trade.

The Big Moon

The Big Moon appearing at this event

The Big Moon are a young London pop-punk four piece consisting of Juliette, Soph, Celia, and Fern. Musically they’re somewhere between PJ Harvey’s more widescreen rock moments and Howling Bells’ ragged intensity, but with a crackling girl-gang energy recalling Elastica.

Circa Waves

Circa Waves appearing at this event

Known for their nervy, melodic indie rock, Britain's Circa Waves first gained buzz in the 2010's with hooky singles like 'Get Away' and 'Stuck in My Teeth'. The Liverpudlians earned favourable comparisons to the Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, and the Vaccines even before they hit the Top Ten with their debut, 2015's Young Chasers. Without shying away from their influences, the band has matured, while continuing their knack for crafting their own distinctively infectious, post-punk anthems.
