This event has been and gone.
This truly unique festival is the best party you've never been to. The truth is, Beat-Herder, a dance music festival at heart, is nothing short of amazing. There's not another place like Beat-Herder on Earth - The most spell-bindingly brilliant small festival in the land’ The Mirror
2017 will see The Beat-Herder Festival returning for its 12th year. Situated in the beautiful Ribble Valley, Lancashire, and described as a festival of beats and barminess. Previous live acts include: Basement Jaxx, Orbital, Leftfield, Todd Terje, Booka Shade, James, Chic feat. Nile Rodgers, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, Donovan, Jake Bugg, Riton, Clean Bandit, Jimmy Cliff, Lee ‘Scratch' Perry, The Happy Mondays, and Django Django. 2017's line up will be announced in the New Year.
Beat-Herder is well known for its unique venues; including The Fortress complete with towers, turrets and flame throwers, Pratty's Ring (a huge earth bowl apparently carved from the ground by local, shovel handed, legend ‘The Giant John Pratt').
The Street features not only a functioning church, hotel, and hair salon, but a tattooist where ‘lifers' demonstrate their allegiance with the Beat-Herder sheep tattoo. At its centre is The Woods; a magical arena at the heart of festival surrounded by huge swaying pines, and not forgetting the Beat-Herder and District Working Men's Social Club, hosting bingo and the hugely popular ‘Beat-Herder's Got Talent’ contest.
Combining Basque folk instruments with drum loops, heavy synths, and lilting vocals, Spain's Crystal Fighters formed after singer Laure Stockley recovered a diary of her deceased reclusive grandfather's while visiting his Basque country home. Inside his notebook was the skeleton of an incomplete opera, with what would become the future band's name as its title. Intent on completing the work and honoring her grandfather's legacy, she returned to London and enlisted the aid of friends Gilbert Vierich, Graham Dickson, Sebastian Pringle and Mimi Borelli, and together they worked to finish his opera. Along the way, they became inspired by the dark, folksy sounds of the Spanish instruments and, combining them with booming basslines, the band was born.

As abrasively dark as artrock gets at the moment. Clanking and clanging rhythms recall the industrialisms of Throbbing Gristle and Cabaret Voltaire but the droning repetition is a distinctly Germanic groove of Can and Neu. With searing guitars and rumbling bass the most obvious new wave relations are PiL, Wire and Gang of Four.

Expect rhymes about forms of bread. Far better and lyrically adept than it has any right to be. Imagine the Lancashire Hotpots and Half Man Half Biscuit jamming with Johnny Cash!

Reginald D Hunter
Originally from the Deep South of the USA, and now one of the North West's favourite comics. Reg is one of the good guys of comedy. A hypnotic, smooth-talking, very human comedian who hits your funny bone with tales of love, hate, death and all that is in between. Reginald has been in the UK for just under two decades and in that time he has become one of the UK Comedy industry’s best-known performers for his distinctive take on subjects including race and sexuality. His work can be brutally honest and is often considered to be controversial but it is always meticulously thought out and he has never been afraid to face challenging issues head on even when the focus is on his own principles or beliefs. Reg has had a hugely successful career and has become a well-known face of primetime television shows such as Live At The Apollo, and is a frequent guest on Have I Got News For You. 'Searing social commentary, deep south wisdom and juicy punchlines' (The Independent) 'One of the comedy scene's leading players and a figure of rare authority' (The Daily Telegraph). “Stand-up comedy’s coolest customer” (Telegraph). “Reginald D Hunter joins the top rank of stand-up comedians working today…A comedian going for broke flying in the face of received opinion in a way that is simply exhilarating...this is comedy of a rare scope” (Times).
