Sedgefield Folk Festival: The Salts
"From its modest beginning within a single venue in September 2006, the festival has gradually expanded to cater for the tastes and interests of travelling folk music enthusiasts and local residents alike.
The festival operates within the Ceddesfeld Community Association and a specific, dedicated committee work hard to organise a full programme of events that will bring visitors into this delightful medieval County Durham village.
One of our main objectives, being a small Festival, is to ensure that all visitors have an event to attend, be it concert, singaround, music session, workshop or dance display.
In recent years concerts have been headlined by such artists as Jez Lowe, the late Vin Garbutt, Billy Mitchell, Bernard Wrigley, the late John Wright, the Mighty Doonans, Nancy Kerr & James Fagan and the Acoustic Strawbs.
This medieval village has a good range of pubs, shops and eating establishments to cater for the weekend visitor. There is also a pleasant caravan & camping site on the edge of the village."

The Salts are made up of seasoned musicians who play a mesmerising mix of full speed, foot-stomping traditional and original shanties. Doing for shanties what the Pogues did for folk, they create one of the most exciting and energetic folk concepts of recent times.
Fronted by twice BBC Young Folk Finalist Lee Collinson, they fire a mighty yet respectful broadside at the traditional, with banjo, mandolin, guitars, double bass and percussion to the fore.
The Salts album "She Rises" is available from Amazon and i-Tunes.
