A Family Affair
The great J.S. Bach named his son Carl Philip Emanuel after his close friend and fellow composer Georg Philipp Telemann, who also became the boy’s godfather. C.P.E. Bach grew up to become one of Europe’s leading composers in his own right, writing music that would help establish a shift in style from baroque to what we now call the classical style.
This programme combines the music of all three composers demonstrating highlights of both styles. The concert showcases not only the virtuosic talents of Director/solo violinist Rachel Podger, but also gives a number of Principals of The English Concert a chance to shine.
