London. 1935. Hero, Richard Hannay meets a beautiful mysterious woman pursued by gunmen and learns too much about a dangerous spy ring. Pursued across Scotland, can he foil the villains’ dastardly plan? Framed by circumstantial evidence, can he clear his name in her murder? Can he, who has never loved anyone, through all the mayhem and daredevil feats - fall in love?

This fast-paced comedy thriller, adapted by Patrick Barlow, is based on Alfred Hitchcock’s film version of John Buchan’s adventure story. Complete with a chase on the Flying Scotsman, escape on the Forth Bridge, a biplane crash, shadowy murders, trilbied heavies in fast cars, handcuffs and a villain with a missing finger part.

The 39 Steps has won an Olivier Award for Best New Comedy, two Tony Awards, performed in the West End and was Broadway’s longest running comedy.
