2017 heralds a new solo album from Reg Meuross. Faraway People is a fresh collection of songs which comment bravely on life as he sees it, bringing wide ranging stories, from the ravages of austerity and the injustice of the plight of refugees, to some of most beautifully disarming lyrics ever written. Reg has that rare gift of being able to touch people through his songs and performance, on a really human level. His words and music paint pictures that remain with the listener long after the song has been sung.

Reg Meuross is a true modern troubadour, representing contemporary English folk writing at its best. “There’s something special about the way he writes and delivers a song” (Townes Van Zandt). His appearances at folk clubs and festivals throughout the UK and abroad, and his highly acclaimed solo albums have now established his songs as ‘the hinges upon which swing the doors of perceptive English folk’ (Folkwords).

“One of the most talented storytellers of our generation” - Pennyblack Music
“Powerful and moving songwriting” - Martin Chilton, The Telegraph
“A mighty songwriter and an equally fine singer” - Martin Carthy

Support from John Ward Trio

John is a singer/songwriter and musician based in East Anglia. He turned to folk and acoustic music in the mid 1980s and, by 1988, had become a full-time songwriter and musician on the folk and roots music scene. Since then, he has performed at folk clubs and festivals all over England as well as overseas. John has guested on numerous radio shows and has appeared on British television. He has released 7 albums of original material and had a book published, all of which have received critical acclaim from reviewers and gig-goers alike. John’s recordings embrace a wonderful collection of his engaging songs, written in a variety of styles and his latest CD the very newly released ‘Sargasso’ is no exception. His previous album was a collection of songs inspired by his local area, mainly written by John, with a couple of traditional songs from the region. One of these songs, ‘From Stornoway to Lowestoft’, recently won the songwriting competition at Ryedale folk festival in the North of England.

In addition to performing solo, John is often joined by his wife, Lynne, and also has his own 5-piece band which he regularly gigs with. On this occasion he will be playing with Lynne and mandolin/double bass player Les Woodley as the John Ward trio.

John has been described as an energetic, passionate and spirited performer who successfully combines humour with thought-provoking songs. From his self-taught musical roots, John has earned a reputation as an excellent and versatile guitarist, his explosive bodhran playing has drawn much attention, and he sometimes includes harmonica, mandolin and banjo at live gigs.

John’s warm and versatile style entertains and his repertoire, which is wide and varied, reflects his musical tastes and his enjoyment in playing in different styles. As well as John’s original compositions, his set for different occasions can include traditional folk, light jazz and popular standards.
