Eden Sessions: Pixies + Tricot
Alternative rock icons Pixies have been announced as headliners for this year's Eden Sessions.
The hugely-influential US band, who can count David Bowie, Bono and Thom Yorke among their most ardent admirers, are the fourth major act announced this year and will play at Eden on Wednesday July 9.
Pixies join Ellie Goulding (July 8 - sold out), Elbow (July 14) and Dizzee Rascal (June 21) on the bill for the 2014 Eden Sessions.
After months of rumours the Pixies finally announced a reunion in 2004, more than 10 years after their bitter split. They had an enormous influence on alternative rock music, despite their relatively modest commercial success. Their intensely dark sound, often referred to as 'post-punk', pre-dated the huge mainstream success of the grunge scene that they clearly laid the foundations for. It certainly wouldn't be exaggerating the importance of the Pixies' in the late 80s and early 90s to ask whether seminal tracks such as 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' would ever have seen the light of day without their influence.
Founding member Kim Deal left the band in 2013, shortly before the band released their first new music in nearly a decade. Black Francis, Joey Santiago and David Lovering are continuing to tour, with Paz Lenchantin - whose CV includes A Perfect Circle, ZWAN and The Entrance Band - stepping in on bass for the 2014 live shows. Paz is now the band’s official bassist.

Tricot are made up of three female founding members: Ikkyu Nakajima (vocals and guitar), Motoko 'Motifour' Kida (guitar and backing vocals), and Hiromi 'hirohiro' Sagane (bass and backing vocals). The band formed in the historical Japanese city of Kyoto in 2010.
Their experimental music primarily consists of melodic post-rock-inspired sounds and complex rhythm reminiscent of math rock.
Tricot's live performances vibrant and intense and they have been highly praised by fans and media.
