Dido and Aeneas
A programme to include a performance of Purcell's Dido and Aeneas.
At first it appears to be a romantic comedy; then it becomes a bawdy romp; finally it transforms into a devastating tragedy. Purcell's Dido and Aeneas is justly hailed as the first great English opera.
It is performed at Saffron Hall by a superb team of soloists, and is accompanied by The English Concert, an ensemble famed for its blazing commitment to drama, its musical intensity, and its luxuriously rich sound.
