How to Look at Paintings: Narrative Paintings
'Seeing comes before words. The child looks and recognises before it can speak’ – John Berger, Ways of Seeing.
This four-part course will introduce various art movements, cultural influences, artistic genres, artists and their work. The aim of the course is to give the necessary skills to approach a painting and appreciate in depth its quality and its significance.
There is a saying, ‘every picture tells a story’. Works of art are forms of communication. This course explores this idea, looking at Narrative Painting including Leonardo Da Vinci’s ‘The Last Supper’ and Picasso’s ‘Guernica’.
