Live At Lunch
This concert offers a rare opportunity to hear three fascinating works for wind ensemble and piano.
Programme:
York Bowen Ballade Op. 133 for oboe, horn and piano
Bruch Eight Pieces Op. 83 for clarinet, bassoon and piano
Mozart Quintet for piano and winds in E flat major K. 452
Edwin York Bowen, a British pianist and composer wrote his impressionistic Ballade in 1949. The romantic theme continues with Max Bruch’s lyrical Eight Pieces Op. 83, composed in 1909 for his son, Max Felix, a clarinettist. Finally, Mozart said of his quintet that "I myself consider it to be the best thing I have written in my life." This turned out to be the only work he wrote for piano quintet, but it was so successful that it inspired Beethoven to write his own quintet Op. 16.
