The Classical Music Roadmap: Off the Beaten Track
For the final Classical Music Roadmap of this season, Jonathan James presents this user-friendly guide to some of the less familiar but no less thrilling music in the orchestral repertoire, taking in some exciting works that helped shape the path of music in the twentieth century, including a violin concerto by Bartók and symphonic works by Hindemith and Vaughan Williams.
Using live piano excerpts Jonathan will shed light on how these forward-looking composers wrote and offer ways into getting the most out of listening to their masterpieces.
You'll be able to hear orchestral extracts from this powerful music in state-of-the-art sound, courtesy of Nottingham HiFi Centre, and there's also the opportunity to enjoy a live musical interlude on the Royal Concert Hall's magnificent Steinway grand piano.
