Sunday Morning Piano Series

Programme:
Ponce - Prelude and Fugue on a theme by Handel
Fauré - Impromptu No. 1, Op. 25
Debussy - Prelude No. 5, ‘Les Collines d’Anacapri’
Mussorgsky - Pictures At An Exhibition

American-born pianist Ingrid Jacoby returns to the Sunday morning piano series with Mussorgsky’s virtuosic masterpiece, Pictures at an Exhibition. The famous promenade leads us from one characterful painting to the next, ending at the majestic Great Gate of Kiev.

The concert begins with a trio of sunny Romantic appetisers: a piece written in one night in Berlin by Mexico’s Manuel Ponce after a music class on Handel, Gabriel Fauré’s ornate impromptu, described by legendary pianist Alfred Cortot as ‘sunlit water’ and Debussy’s impression of the landscape and songs of the island of Capri.

The Sunday Morning Series offers an hour of classic works and rare gems, from Chopin to Ireland, After the concert you can chat with the performers over tea, coffee and some enticing cake – and you’ll still have time to get back home for Sunday Lunch!

** This concert replaces the one previously advertised on this date with Nareh Arghamanyan.
