Dutch pianist Hannes Minnaar found fame after winning the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels in 2010. Acclaimed for his sense of narration and structure, he performs Ravel’s dark masterpiece, Gaspard de la Nuit.
Containing brilliantly evocative and imaginative writing, it was intended by Ravel to be the most difficult work in the piano repertoire. Franck’s Prélude, Choral and Fugue was inspired by Bach’s sacred works and has symbols of spiritual redemption, whilst Liszt’s Schubert song transcriptions showcase both composers at their poetic best, here with three songs of love and the soul.
