Sunday Morning Piano Series

Programme:
Beethoven - 32 Variations in C minor, WoO 80

Chopin - Mazurka in A minor, Op. 17, No. 4
Mazurka in C sharp minor, Op.50, No. 3

Saint- Saëns - Mazurkas Op. 24 & Op. 66

Liszt - Hungarian Rhapsody No. 12

The exciting young Kazakh pianist, Dina Duisen was born into a musical family and made her orchestral debut aged 13, before studying in Texas and in London at the Royal Academy of Music. Last year she recorded a whole album of Mazurkas by a host of composers and showcases contrasting examples here by Chopin and Saint-Saëns.

These are bookended by Beethoven’s set of powerful and melancholy variations, which it is said in later life he forgot he had composed, and Liszt’s most ingenious Hungarian Rhapsody, a winning mix of keyboard acrobatics and rousing dances.
