Pianist, composer, writer, painter, blogger - Stephen Hough is a true twenty-first century Renaissance man whose multiple achievements earned him a CBE in 2014. His return to Nottingham sees him performing Beethoven's Third Piano Concerto. Written when the composer's star was in the ascendant, its grandeur and level of imagination mark it as the first of his mature concertos. Rachmaninov's 2nd Symphony was a major personal achievement given the critical mauling received by his 1st and its epic span encompasses drama, passion and, at its heart, one of the most beautiful slow movements ever written.
