Three programmes of ballet in one evening by British greats Sir Frederick Ashton, Sir Kenneth MacMillan, and a new work by Alexander Whitley.
Ashton's Les Rendezvous is flirtatious and lighter than air, an irresistibly charming showcase of pure dance technique. Kin., by Alexander Whitley, is an athletic, abstract piece danced to a pulsing, hypnotic score by Phil Kline. And in Elite Syncopations, a dance hall bursts to colourful life with jazz syncopation and a whirl of waltzes and cakewalks. One of MacMillan's best-loved creations, Elite Syncopations is flashy and laugh-out-loud funny.
Birmingham Royal Ballet are accompanied by members of the acclaimed Royal Ballet Sinfonia.
