Radiodyssey
On February 22nd, 1952, fifty strangers gathered in the vaults of BBC Stoke to hear a ground-breaking new radio comedy act.
Umami were unheard of at the time but amongst the crowd were a 7-year-old John Cleese, the entire cast of Beyond the Fringe and a starry-eyed Vladimir Putin. What they heard that night changed their lives forever as they listened to the most influential hour of radio comedy ever produced.
Unfortunately, BBC Stoke forgot to record the performance so it has only been whispered about in comedy circles ever since. Umami were never heard of again until now when they bring this legendary show to life.
The Monks of Umami, the spiritual ancestors of the original group, recreate this lost material which has been passed down from father to son, like Beowulf, eventually reaching a mutual friend.
