Boots

Sex. Abuse. Scars. Female solidarity and the power of Mother Nature.

Boots is a new play exploring infertility and sexual abuse trauma by Jessica Butcher and Sacha Voit. Willow (Tanya Loretta Dee) is working in Boots, the chemist, in order to fund her future. She is a thirty-something year old with a brilliant brain. Liz (Illona Linthwaite) is retired, damaged, bold and outrageous. Willow is a woman of colour. Liz is white.

The play questions the connection between the female body, the power of nature and the legacy of sexual abuse trauma. Through Liz and Willow’s friendship we dispel the myth of the patriarchal routes to motherhood. How women ‘should’ be. Liz is in her 70s and has a controlling husband. She has never been allowed real freedom. Willow is beginning her journey of choice and true empowerment. They are learning together in their given circumstances.
