Yakul Play Musiq Soulchild

One of the defining artists of the seminal neo soul movement of the noughties, Musiq Soulchild first built his reputation as a musically gifted artist by beat boxing for MC’s, free styling on the open mic circuit and performing acappella for strangers on the streets.

Deeply inspired by the soul sound of the 70’s, he adopted the name “Soulchild” as a way to show respect and admiration to his biggest musical influences such as Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, Marvin Gaye and many others. With countless Billboard top 10 albums and Grammy nominations, he created a unique style that blended R&B, funk, blues, jazz, and gospel influences fused with hip hop.

Taking on the ominous task of his vast repoertoire is Brighton neo soul quartet Yakul, who stole the show on New Years Eve at Jazz Cafe thanks to their electric musicianship and innate sense of groove and soul.

*This show was rescheduled from 8th May*
