A Live Rendition Of Ornette Coleman's The Shape Of Jazz To Come

A saxophonist, violinist, trumpeter, composer and pioneer of the Free Jazz Movement, Ornette Coleman’s was an incredibly influential musician. As he progressed through his career his chord progression and approach to harmony strayed further and further away from the rigid structure other bepop performers.

Coleman’s 1959 Atlantic recording The Shape of Jazz to Come, is what brought his unique style to the fore, audiences taking notice of his distinct take on bebop in how he morphed it to follow a path of his desire. His free use of rhythm was like nothing heard before, and this in turn inspired other artists to follow suit and listen more closely to their hearts, independent of the musical climate at the time.
