A Live Rendition Of Duke Ellington's The Blanton-Webster Band

Duke Ellington’s legacy does not only live on through the musician’s he has influenced, but in the sheer quantity of his recorded material. Boasting a collection of over 3,000 songs he was easily the busiest jazz artist there has ever been. He referred to his form of jazz as “American Music" and over his 50-year career he played over 20,000 performances in Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and Asia. After his death Ellington’s reputation has grown dramatically.

The Blant Webster Band is a compilation album released by Bluebird Record consisting of all the recordings by Duke Ellington’s Orchestra from 1940 to 1942, regarded as Ellington’s golden period. The 75 track, three disk piece of work featured bassist Jimmy Blanton and Saxophonist Ben Webster, both greats in their own right. The masterful composition and complicated arrangement clearly emphasizes the musical intelligence and leadership Ellington possessed.
