A Live Rendition Of Charles Mingus' Mingus Ah Um
Charles Mingus Jr, was an American double bassist, very ambitious and revolutionary in the way he approached his music, using his heavily gospel and blues influenced style to create an original unique sound. With his leadership qualities and ability to arrange mid-size ensembles he is often referred to as the heir of Duke Ellington.
Released by Columbia in 1959, Mingus Ah Um was Mingus’s most famous creation. An incredibly diverse album with harmonies invoking modern classical music similar to that of blues and his hand picked instrumentalists add different elements to the ensemble through their brief well thought out solos.
