Professor Michele Dougherty

Join Imperial’s Professor Michele Dougherty in the Hall’s Elgar Room as she talks you through her work on the 20-year-long Cassini probe mission and her work on the forthcoming JUICE probe, due to be launched towards Jupiter in 2022.

Michele is the Principal Investigator for the Magnetometer Instruments for two major outer planetary space missions: the NASA Cassini Spacecraft, which is in orbit around Saturn and the ESA’s JUICE spacecraft, due to go into orbit around Ganymede, Jupiter’s largest moon, in 2030. The most exciting moment in her career was when her team on Cassini was responsible for discovering an atmosphere on one of Saturn’s moons.

Michele has received numerous awards during her career, including the Hughes Medal and the Gold Medal of the Royal Astronomical Society for Geophysics. She has also had the honour of being elected a Fellow of the Royal Society and being recognised by the UK Science Council as one of the 100 top UK living scientists.
