A night to celebrate the East End of ’45, surviving the blitz, defeating Hitler, electing Phil Piratin as Communist MP for Stepney. And to reflect on the 2015 General Election, whatever happened to hope?

A conversation on the politics of hope 1945-2015 featuring writer and broadcaster Paul Mason joined by Guardian columnist and campaigner Owen Jones with Harry Leslie Smith WW2 veteran and author of Harry's Last Stand plus Cat Boyd co-founder of Scotland's Radical Independence Campaign.

Providing the poetry the unique talent of Michael Rosen plus the hottest name in spoken word Niall McDevitt reading a specially-commissioned poem in honour of Phil Piratin. Phil was one of the leaders of the Cable Steeet protests to stop the Blackshirts marching through the East End and was elected the Communist MP for Stepney in ’45.

And closing the show? Rebel music from the incredible 7-piece ska band, Captain Ska, with support by Maddy Carty Music. Filling the dancefloor will be the Melstars Sound System.
