Steve's Gala Night
Jazz/Latin/Groove night. Steve Rubie has owned, managed and programmed the 606 Club since 1976, when the Club was based at its original location at 606 Kings Road. As such he's had a hand in promoting the careers of musicians who've gone on to considerable fame and fortune, among them Jamie Cullum, Gwilym Simcock, Liane Carroll, Claire Martin & Ian Shaw.
The longevity of the Club is due largely to Steve's passion for the music, and as those who have heard him will know, he plays flute and saxophone at very high level - Steve's first encounter with the 606, after all, was as a young music student from Trinity Laban.
This dedication to providing an environment for improvised music to flourish remains characteristic of the Club and on this evening (which according to rumour is taking place close to someone's birthday, though don't tell anyone), will celebrate that history with Steve and a number of special guests, including the aforementioned Liane Carroll, along with singers Gwyneth Herbert, Liliana Chachian and members of Steve's band Samara.
