Kashaka Workshop
Please note: Info provided by the Event Organiser
Kashaka Workshop at the International Eisteddfod in Llangollen. Kashaka shakers originate from West Africa and are also known by many other names – Asalatua, Aslatua, Asalato, Cas Cas, Kes Kes, Kosika, Patica, Thelevi & many more.
They are a simple instrument – 2 small gourds made from dried fruit, filled with seeds, beads or pebbles & joined with rope – but are capable of creating highly complex rhythmic patterns and polyrhythms.
They are great ‘tool’ for any musician to develop and improve dexterity & rhythmic capabilities and can be used as a warm up before practice and performances.

They also performed at the National Celebration of British Asian Live Arts in 2008.
Samswara are known for their on stage rapport & spontaneous and playful musical dialogues through which they journey from slow, meditative melodies through to fast and highly detailed exciting rhythmical interplay.
