John Muir: Rhapsody In Green

John Muir was born in Dunbar in 1838. When he was 11 years old he left Scotland behind and moved with his family to the USA. Years later, he explored the forests and glaciers of the Pacific North West and inspired environmental thinking all over the world. He discovered Yosemite in California and in 1903 President Theodore Roosevelt came to visit him there. Roosevelt’s time with Muir is the longest visit ever paid by a serving American President to a private citizen. After his return, Roosevelt made an executive order establishing Yosemite as a National Park. Muir’s glacial explorations also led him to Alaska where he became friends with Samuel Hall Young. In this moving new drama, Young, played by Mike Maran, remembers the life of his friend and his love for the wilderness.
