Illyria

The Illyria Theatre Company presents its popular annual Shakespearian performance in the garden of the elegant Grade II listed Fairkytes Arts Centre in Hornchurch.

This year's production is the Bard's comedy from circa 1590, The Taming of the Shrew.

Controversial because of its apparent misogynistic undertones, the story tells of the courtship between Petruchio and the headstrong Katherina (the 'shrew' of the title'), who is initially an unwilling subject of his affections, until gradually through various psychological inititaives, he 'tames' her into a compliant and obedient bride.
