Bob Fox

A very welcome return to the holder of one of the finest voices around! Bob has been a professional singer and musician since the mid-1970s, working initially in duos with the likes of Tom McConville and Stu Luckley. As a solo performers, he continued to work around the folk scene and toured both at home and abroad. He started the new century with an appearance as a ‘special guest’ at Fairport Convention’s Cropredy Festival, which started an almost meteoric rise in recognition in the wider music world, and continued with tours across the pond in America and Canada, and down below in Australia and New Zealan, as well as Eirope. Over the years, he has several times been nominated in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, but never quite got there – but who can tell why one person gets it rather than another? In 2006 he was invited to join an elite group of singers, writers and musicians to record six new Radio Ballads commissioned by the BBC, which received great acclaim. For several years now, Bob has held the role of ‘Songman’ in the stage production of ‘WarHorse’, both in the West End and on tour. In breaks between performances, he has been doing solo gigs, in a duo with Billy Mitchell of Lindisfarne, and working with Benny Graham, Jez Lowe and Billy Mitchell as The Pitmen Poets, recently at The Plough, Torrington, drawing on the rich traditions of songwriting in their native North East of England. With such a long musical career, it seems unlikely to be ending any time soon, and solo gigs are relatively few and far between, so don’t miss this opportunity of seeing him in the intimate surroundings of Shammick Acoustic!
