The Romans In Britain
54 BC. A young British priest is about to experience the power and depravity of the invading Roman army. AD 515 and two sisters struggle to cope in the post-apocalyptic world that is the fall of the Roman Empire and the Saxon conquest of England. And in 1980 AD a rogue SAS officer in Ireland begins his mission to assassinate a local IRA cell leader – only to be confronted with visions of the past and the hunger for peace.
Howard Brenton’s poetic masterpiece, The Romans in Britain, which deals with what happens when countries invade other countries, is as controversial and tragically relevant as when it was first performed in 1980 at the National Theatre in London.
