The Touches Of Sweet Harmony
In an enticing programme to mark Shakespeare’s 400th anniversary, the glorious voices of Stile Antico blend in a beguiling selection of music connected to his life. The programme includes rare settings of the Bard’s words by his contemporaries Thomas Morley and Robert Johnson alongside tributes to his patron the Protestant James I by Tomkins and Weelkes.
Intriguing links with recusant Catholicism through William Byrd combine with brand new settings of Shakespeare’s poetry by Nico Muhly and Huw Watkins commissioned especially for the group. Now established as one of the most original and exciting vocal ensembles in the country, Stile Antico really are the best possible ambassadors for this wonderful repertoire.
