Birmingham Classical
Always a highlight of any season, the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House returns to Symphony Hall in a rare foray onto the concert platform.
With Sir Antonio Pappano at the helm, Tchaikovsky’s inventive and too-rarely performed Orchestral Suite No 3 – a form which the composer found more liberating than the conventions of the symphony – ends with a meaty set of flamboyant variations. Georgian Mezzo Anita Rachvelishvili, adored by international audiences and critics alike since her extraordinary La Scala debut in 2009, joins Pappano for a wonderful selection of Rachmaninoff songs.
