Schools Concerts - Birmingham History: City Of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO)
Birmingham’s past is full of real-life drama and sparks of creativity, from the industrial revolution to wartime bombing – and of course, the birth of the city’s very own orchestra!
In this concert specially devised for Key Stage 2 students, and presented by The Play House, delve into the story of the city through the ages, brought to life in music including Walton’s Spitfire Prelude and Fugue and the Wand of Youth by Worcester-lad Edward Elgar.
Founded in 1920, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra has always had an illustrious career. In fact, the first concert was conducted by Sir Edward Elgar. The orchestra has grown into a 90-piece ensemble with a worldwide reputation.
