Berlin. 1940. A city ruled by fear.

A silent campaign of defiance.

A gripping portrait of life in wartime Berlin and a vividly theatrical study of a paranoid society gripped by crisis.

Based on true events, Alone in Berlin follows a quietly courageous couple who stand up to the brutal reality of the Nazi regime. With the smallest of acts, they defy Hitler’s rule – facing the gravest of consequences.

Adapted by celebrated playwright Alastair Beaton (Feelgood, Fracked!, Follow My Leader and The Trial of Tony Blair) from Hans Fallada’s bestselling novel, this is a timely story of the moral power of personal resistance. We follow Otto and Anna as they negotiate the insidious effects of Fascism on every aspect of life in 1930s Berlin. Together, they descend through the circles of this totalitarian hell – from their claustrophobic apartment building to the cells of the Gestapo headquarters and ultimately the Nazi prisons in which they await their fate.
