Tenor saxophonist Simon Spillett is a formidable musician, composer and graduate of the hard bop school. He has been making waves on the British jazz scene for some time with his intense and committed Tubby Hayes influenced performances.
Apart from of course Tubby Hayes he also lists John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins and Stan Getz as amongst his favourite saxophonists. When not playing he is spending more of his time as a writer both for jazz magazines and CD sleeve notes. He is also the author of the highly acclaimed definitive biography of Tubby Hayes - The Long Shadow Of The Little Giant, which was published in 2015. Accompanying him this evening are Terry Seabrook on piano, Nigel Thomas on bass and Bobby Worth on drums.
