St John Passion
Deeply personal, inspiring and questioning in equal parts, Bach’s St John Passion is a gripping and dramatic account of Christ’s betrayal, trial and death, and one of the most powerful expressions of Western culture.
You cannot fail to be moved by Bach’s ravishing music, which encompasses moments of quiet introspection, awe-inspiring choruses, and emotional arias delivered with operatic grandeur and intensity.
English Touring Opera’s new production, featuring members of their orchestra and principal singers, is being performed in partnership with over 30 professional and amateur choirs around the country and features new translations by writers of different faiths and backgrounds including former Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Rowan Williams, mindfulness guru Maitreyabandhu and author Marina Warner.
They are delighted to be presenting this as part of their Rosehill on the Road programme including the Solway Singers, Cockermouth Harmonic Society, West Cumberland Choral Society and Cockermouth School Chamber Choir in St John’s Church Workington.
