Hang The Witch
A talk on witchcraft in the 17th Century by Dr Darren Oldridge, followed by a screening of Michael Reeves’ infamous film, Witchfinder General
Michael Reeves' Witchfinder General (1968) is an infamous classic of British cinema. It also provides the most compelling popular portrayal of the English witch trials of the seventeenth century. This screening of the film will be introduced by Dr Darren Oldridge, an expert on witchcraft and the supernatural in the Tudor and Stuart period, and senior lecturer in History at the University of Worcester. Dr Oldridge will consider the true events that inspired the film, and also examine the legacy of Reeves' disturbing masterpiece.
