Nocturne Live 2020
One of the most successful and iconic UK bands of all time, the 60 million-selling, international chart-toppers Simple Minds are the latest act lined up to headline the Nocturne Live concert series this summer.
Fronted by founder members Jim Kerr (vocals) and Charlie Burchill (guitar), the band are currently celebrating 40 years in music and will perform a greatest hits set at Blenheim Palace on Friday June 19th featuring a selection of their best-known songs including Don’t You (Forget About Me), Alive And Kicking and Sanctify Yourself.
Support will come from fellow Scottish pop-rock band Deacon Blue, who enjoyed widespread success throughout the 1980s and ‘90s selling over 7 million albums and notching up fourteen UK Top 40 singles and two UK number one albums along the way. They’ll perform a career-spanning set including music from their soon-to-be-released new studio album City Of Love.
Simple Minds have experienced a remarkable journey since releasing their debut album ‘Life in a Day’ in 1979. Constantly evolving, the band’s rousing choruses and booming atmospherics made them one of the most iconic bands of the Eighties. Along the way, they’ve landed five UK #1 albums, topped the singles charts on both sides of the Atlantic, sold over 60 million albums and packed stadiums the world over. But the story didn’t end there. After taking some time out, they returned revitalised and resurgent with the 2014 album ‘Big Music’ and have maintained that upward momentum ever since. They claimed the Q Inspiration Award that same year, which was followed by an Ivor Novello in 2016. And when 2018’s ‘Walk Between Worlds’ album crashed into the UK charts at #4, it represented their highest position in 23 years. No wonder that the Manic Street Preachers, Moby, Primal Scream and many others cite Simple Minds as a vital inspiration.

Their name was inspired by a Steely Dan song, their music influenced by the artfulness of Bruce Springsteen channelled through a distinctly Scottish upbringing. The end product is Deacon Blue. Fronted by singer/songwriter Ricky Ross, Deacon Blue have enjoyed five top five albums and 18 top 40 singles over the last 25 years, achieving massive chart success in the '80s with tracks including Real Gone Kid and Fergus Sings The Blues. They have continued to release new material, with critically acclaimed albums trilogy The Hipsters (2012), A New House (2014) and Believers (2016) all reaching the UK top 20 album chart.
