Of Time And The Railway By Robert Davies

Hop on board for a driver’s eye view of the journey from Birmingham’s New Street station to the Welsh coast in Aberystwyth.

This new exhibition at Wolverhampton Art Gallery was filmed by Robert Davies over many journeys between the city and the coast, capturing the changing seasons and landscapes. As well as the changes to the landscape made by people and nature.

The journey begins at New Street on a winters’ night and heads through the Black Country during the morning as spring brings the lineside back to life. We reach Shrewsbury at midday before heading off to the Welsh Marches at the height of summer. We glide in to Welshpool before turning towards the mountains as autumn begins to take hold.

Snow and ice return as we get closer to the coast passing Machynlleth and the Dyfi estuary to Borth before finally reaching Aberystwyth in the early evening.

It’s a fascinating journey and a film well worth seeing.
