A Big Bang: The Origins Of The Pop Art Collection Part 2
The second of a two-part display exploring the reason why artworks by some of the biggest names in Pop Art found their home at Wolverhampton Art Gallery.
Following on from the success of A Big Bang 1 in 2013/14, this exhibition features works which came into the collection in the later 1960s and 70s when the Pop movement was getting into full swing.
Works by British and American ‘stars’ such as Eduardo Paolozzi, Patrick Caulfield, Peter Blake, Clive Barker, Richard Hamilton, Joe Tilson, Allen Jones and Andy Warhol are all on show, along with press cuttings expressing the reaction of the local media at a time when Pop Art was still considered to be new and controversial in the provinces.
