A lunatic misogynist billionaire with a nuclear hairdo has a date with a nuclear button in the White House, having been elected with 3 million votes fewer than his opponent. The UK hurtles towards Brexit after the most virulently xenophobic right-wing press campaign in British history: a 52-48% vote based on a bunch of ‘promises’ which were repudiated the day after the result is designated an immutable ‘will of the people’ deemed to trump (ha!) the very parliamentary sovereignty Leave campaigners championed. (Attilia is no EU fanatic either, as testified in his poem ‘Take Back Control’ – it stitched up Greece and acts as a conduit for bosses’ profits and cheap labour, it’s hardly paradise.)

The world is going nuts, and, as he has done ever since he started performing as Attila in 1980, he's writing about it. Above all, in the title poem he gives his definitive analysis of the roots of the surge in right-wing populism and why people on the European Left have to respond to it head-on, without hand- wringing or apology.
