Pink Thunderbird by James McLure
A hilarious Texan comedy presented through two one act plays: 'Laundry & Bourbon' and 'Lone Star'.
'Lone Star' and 'Laundry & Bourbon' are two of the most exciting and original plays to emerge from America’s disastrous excursion into Vietnam. Written by the late James McLure, Lone Star was presented off Broadway in 1979 after an initial production at the Actor’s Theatre of Louisville. In 1980 the first joint production with Laundry & Bourbon – under the covering title of 1959 Pink Thunderbird – was given by the McCarter Theatre Company at Princeton, New Jersey.
The play’s central character, Roy Caulder, is back from his service in Vietnam and eager to pick up the threads of his former hedonistic lifestyle; unfortunately, there is very little left to pick up, apart from his long suffering wife Elizabeth and his 1959 Pink Thunderbird. Roy’s life now revolves around the rear of Angel’s Bar, where he and his idiot brother Ray engage in mindless banter about the state of the world.
