Although they had never spoken before, two London housewives decide to go on the holiday of a lifetime, without their husbands. They advertise for two travelling companions and receive replies from Lady Caroline Bramble and Mrs. Clayton Graves.

During their enchanted month in the small Ligurian castle, the ladies fall under the spell of their idyllic, sun-drenched surroundings, rediscover laughter and learn new truths about themselves.
