Royal Renegades - The Children Of Charles I And The English Civil Wars
Acclaimed author and winner of the 2004 Biographer’s Prize, Dr Linda Porter delivers a vivid account of the children of Charles I and how they reacted when their calm and loving family life was shattered by the Civil War and the execution of their father.
'Royal Renegades' examines the neglected aspect of the dispute between the Stuart monarchy and Parliament that tore apart seventeenth century England. The execution of King Charles I is one of the most famous moments in British history but its impact on his family and their treatment by the victors under Oliver Cromwell is little-known.
In this book, Porter describes the fascinating story of loving parents who could not protect their progeny from the forces of upheaval sweeping England.
Dr Linda Porter has a B.A. and a D.Phil from the University of York. Her previous three books, 'Mary Tudor: The First Queen', 'Katherine the Queen: the Remarkable Life of Katherine Parr' and 'Crown of Thistles' garnered huge critical acclaim.
