Essex, 1968 and the female sewing machinists at the Ford Motor Company’s factory in Dagenham are up in arms when they learn that their jobs as machinists are to be downgraded and they will be paid less than the men. Fighting a battle against male prejudice, management and the union supposed to protect them, the ladies eventually call a strike; an unprecedented step for women at the time.
Based on a true story, we follow spokeswoman Rita O’Grady and her co-workers on an emotional journey that ultimately leads to the passing of the Equal Pay Act 1970. ‘Made in Dagenham’ shows how ordinary people can do extraordinary things when they stand together.
It’s an uplifting show about friendship, love and the importance of fighting for what’s right. With slick, catchy tunes it’s well worth making a song and dance about!
Warning: The show contains strong language and may not be suitable for younger audiences.
