Barnum the musical was created by Mark Bramble, with lyrics by Michael Stewart, and music by Cy Coleman. It is based on the life of showman P. T. Barnum and combines musical theatre with the colourful and mesmerising spectacle of the circus. Stand out songs include There’s a Sucker Born Ev’ry Minute, The Colours of my Life and One Brick at a Time. During its Broadway run, starring Jim Dale and Glen Close, Barnum won 3 coveted Tony Awards, and whilst in the West End the musical drew wide acclaim, with star Michael Crawford receiving the Laurence Olivier Award for ‘Best Actor in a Musical’.
