One of Europe’s finest orchestras and its Principal Conductor, Michael Sanderling, are joined by Swansea-born Thomas Carroll for one of Britain’s best-loved classics. Filled with heartbreak and poetry, Elgar’s Cello Concerto was written in the aftermath of World War I and symbolises the composer’s lament for a lost world. In contrast, Beethoven’s Eroica provides an exhilarating finale. Shocking to the composer’s contemporaries, it still retains an ability to provoke, thrill and inspire today.
