The Edinburgh Quartet is delighted to return to the Pavilion this summer with a rich and varied programme. Haydn’s passionate Sturm und Drang Quartet known as “the Fifths” is followed by Shostakovich’s intimate fourth string quartet, inspired by Jewish folk music.
After the interval EQ proudly introduce Emily Pond, winner of the “EQ Apprentice” competition 2016, a scheme which helps talented young musicians launch a career in chamber music. Emily joins the quartet in a performance of Dvo?ák’s Quintet Op 97, written whilst the composer was in America and clearly inspired by the “New World”.
Programme:
Haydn: String Quartet in d minor, Op 76 No 2 “Fifths”
Shostakovich: String Quartet No 4
Interval
Dvo?ák: String Quintet No 3 in E flat, Op 97 “American”
