Floating On Brindley's Dreams - Musical Celebration
'Floating in Brindley's Dreams' is musical celebration. 2016 marks the 300th anniversary of legendary canal engineer James Brindley’s birth.
It is also the 250th anniversary of the cutting of the first sod in the construction of the Trent and Mersey Canal, Brindley’s greatest achievement. On July 26 in that year in Stoke-on-Trent, Josiah Wedgwood wielded the silver spade to cut the turf, and Brindley put it in a wheelbarrow. They took it back to Burslem and partied mightily.
The Heritage Lottery Fund has funded theatrical composer Greg Stephens to help coordinate the celebrations of Brindley’s life and legacy. Part of the project has involved researching, writing and developing songs, with schools, choirs and other community groups and volunteers in N Staffordshire. The result of this is “Floating on Brindley’s Dreams”, a musical celebration of Brindley’s achievements.
